Beccles extended their lead at the top of London Division 3NE with a hard-fought victory over a well drilled Wanstead side.

The hosts started the game well and were soon in front, keeping possession to create space for Wade to cut through the defence and score out wide. He missed the difficult conversion.

Wanstead soon replied with a converted score of their own but Beccles upped the pace again and Musker McIntyre man-of-the-match Wilson took good ball at the line-out. The pack drove towards the line and Tipple touched down.

Wanstead levelled the scores with a penalty before Wade followed suit to make it 13-10 at the break.

The second half was tight and in the end the deadlock was broken by Rowney, who received the ball out wide and chipped ahead. As the Wanstead full-back came to collect Rowney got his foot to the ball again and chipped it over his head, caught it and sprinted clear to score under the posts. Wade added an easy conversion and soon extended the lead with a penalty.

Wanstead upped their game and some more tight driving led to them getting an unconverted try. They pushed hard to cut the deficit but even though Lake was sent to the sin bin Beccles were able to hold on.
