Beccles Town Swimming Club completed the final weekend of the Suffolk County Championships with another gold medal and plenty of personal bests.

Nina Bircham this time was the swimmer to bring home gold in her 200m butterfly event on Sunday to top off another successful championships for the Kingfishers.

Many had to dig deep to produce some great swimming. Senior girls swimmers Eleanor Chick and Felicity Putman put in strong swims to come close to their best times, only set a few months ago, and for the boys Ollie Woodcock – who had been suffering from sickness all week – put in the effort to produce a new PB in his 100m individual medley.

It was Ollie's team-mate Max Beevor who came up with the best time of the weekend, taking six seconds off his PB. Likewise for the boys Robert Thurtell gained a new best, also in the 100m IM – but not before storming to a PB and regional time in his 50m butterfly. Will Pye added his support with a near PB in his 50m freestyle.

Alice Collyer started the second weekend in fine form by producing a great PB in her 50m breaststroke. Hannah Barnes then gained a new PB in her 400m freestyle, followed by Nina Howell taking a second off her 50 backstroke best. Rhianna James dug deep to complete 10 events over the weekend and put tiredness to one side to record new bests in her 100m breaststroke and 100m free.

Sophie Thurtell completed her County Championship strongly by securing PBs in all of her events.

The club finished ninth overall, with three swimmers in the top 12 for their age groups in Suffolk: Emily Waller, Henry Barnes and Nina Bircham. A massive well done to all that took part. Further congratulations go to Robert Thurtell and Eleanor Chick, who now go to the East Region Youth Championships in Basildon at the start of May.
