With a big league game against Sudbury coming up on Saturday Beccles took the opportunity to rest most of their first team for this friendly. This gave a chance for the successful second team to step up a level and take on a strong Diss team.
Diss started the game well and missed tackles allowed them to run through for the opening score. Beccles hit back straight away and after a number of drives Cornelius was on hand to crash over for a try.
Beccles had good spells where they kept the ball for a number of phases. But as soon as they made mistakes they were punished and Diss added three more tries before half-time.
Poor tackling from Beccles allowed Diss through for another five tries but Beccles didn't let their heads go down and showed good fitness levels to dominate the last 20 minutes.
They kept the ball well, created a number of chances and in the end it was Long who finally converted one of the chances. He beat his man on the outside and sprinted down the wing to score in the corner.
