L&Y slumped to defeat in their final league game of the season against high-flying Basildon, who managed to secure second place in the table and a promotion play-off against Stevenage with this five-point win.

The loss means L&Y finish a respectable seventh in the league only a few points short of a jump up to a target fourth place finish. For their first season in this higher league the L&Y management are happy with the consolidation and looking forward to next year knowing they have the core of a squad that is well capable of competing for a top three position in the future.

Basildon deservedly won this match on the back of their superior organisation, fitness and pace. From the off they exploited the blind side at every opportunity on a hard and fast pitch and their monopoly of possession put L&Y under enormous pressure despite some brave defensive work from Steve Adams, Marc Thomas and Chris Howe. L&Y's tries were scored by Chris Howe and Scott Nelson, David Tiueti converting both.
