Barney and Martham take the honours on Mid Norfolk League’s finals day

Barney saw off a youthful Acle side by 10 wickets to win the Challenge Cup while Martham beat newcomers Beeston by six wickets to lift the Broke Cup.

Acle won the toss and elected to bat first in their game and were all out for 129, with Jack Timmins taking 4-29 and Craig Press (28) and Jordan Betts (21) starring with the bat.

This brought the exciting talent of Aaron Riseborough to the crease to open the Barney reply and the sizeable crowd were treated to a wonderful display of attacking batting. The man of the match completed the run chase with a breathtaking series of boundaries, including three sixes, with a cheeky reverse sweep sealing the win.

In the Broke Cup final, Beeston were all out for 138 after being asked to bat first. Adrian Parke top-scored with 29 while Harry Steward added a fine 27, including a huge six that went out of the ground.

The pick of the bowlers was Harry Chanchalani who took 4-24.

For Martham wicketkeeper Finn Grist top scored with 45 while man-of-the-match Kieron Spencer made a telling 37 at the crucial time. The pick of the bowlers was Tom Roberson who took 2-32 while skipper Ben Wall conceded just 17 runs from his eight overs. Meanwhile, the second Norfolk Youth Festival at Manor Park, sponsored by Gresham's School, proved a big hit, despite one of the four days being lost to bad weather.

The opening day's Under-13 hardball competition saw Horsford finish unbeaten to take the trophy, with Swardeston coming second and Great Melton third.

The Under-11s battled it out the next day. Bradfield took an early lead but they were unable to hold the position and Horsford Hurricanes came through strongly to take the overall victory.

The final day saw the Under-15s take centre stage. Some cracking games saw Horsford and Acle battle it out for the top two positions before Swardeston managed to come through to take the overall victory, with Horsford runners-up.
