Shaun Bammant's late goal capped a fine all-round performance that saw the Trawlerboys extend their winning run to six games.
The Blues dominated the game for long periods, retaining possession with some delightful passing and movement but without really creating many clear openings.
However, it was almost a disastrous start as Louis Clark worked his way through in the opening minute, forcing Jake Jessup to block his close-range shot. As the ball spiralled up Clark headed goalwards, but Frazer Blake-Tracy was on hand to clear.
Ryan Jarvis and Andrew Fisk were taking a grip in midfield for Lowestoft – an excellent ball by Jarvis picked out Rory Mcauley's run through the middle, but Ethan Belward spread himself to save at the expense of a corner.
Lowestoft were sending some dangerous balls into the area and Travis Cole was just too high with a header from Nico Cotton's corner and a poor clearing header by Sam Rents fell to Mcauley who hooked the ball over the top.
There was an early scare again for Lowestoft at the start of the second half as a Ross Edwards shot deflected off Clark, but was just the wrong side of the upright.
Worthing were coming more into the game in the second period, although Jarvis and Fisk combined to creating a shooting chance for Mcauley, but again his effort was just off target. Lowestoft looked to have taken the lead in the 77th minute as Cotton cut in from the right and saw his shot parried by Belward for Jake Reed to tap home – only to see the off side flag raised.
As the game entered the final 10 minutes Jessup was twice called into serious action, saving well from close range from Dan Summers before diving full length to turn away a vicious 25-yard drive from Rents.
With just three minutes left Lowestoft finally broke through for the win they deserved – Jarvis' corner from the left was headed away by Jack Cook, but only as far as Fisk who clipped the ball back into the area for Bammant to rise highest to place a downward header wide of Belward.
