Aussie snatches Subaru crown

Two early leaders Pippa Funnell and Neil Spratt (Billy Landretti and Upleadon respectively) both failed to complete while Norfolk's Piggy French and Jakata, a new combination, took it steadily and dropped to fifth after being awarded several time penalties.

The show jumping had not made much difference to the standings, with several clear and four fault rounds, but the same cannot be said of Alec Lochore's cross country course.

Funnell's horse stopped at a double of narrow angled hedges and was found to have lost both front shoes so she retired and Spratt had a fall at fence five, a large table.

Kitty King (Boggis), third after dressage, had two stops at the same fence as Funnell and retired Boondoogle.

This left the door open for Way and his mare Secret Picnic, whom he has been riding for a number of years now, and the pair recorded a clear round in a good time to win from Nick Gauntlett, on Chilli Morning.
