On a hard day on the Radar Hill circuit in Essex, Norwich rider Mike Auger (Strada Sport) took the bronze medal in the Eastern Road Race League Championships, after twice bridging gaps to stay in contention.

Eventual winner Joe Perrett (Ciclos Uno) and Dean Shannon (Twenty3C/Orbea) were the strong men of the Lea Valley CC-promoted event, breaking away on the first lap of the 88-mile race, and doing it again in the company of Owen Lake (Cambridge CC) after the field came together in mid-race.

Auger chased in a group of seven and then alone with Andy Hastings (Metaltek), who just beat Auger to second place. Five seconds later Auger's Strada Sport team-mate Tom Fitzpatrick from Kenninghall won a three-way sprint for fourth place from Adam French (Rapha-Condor) and Clem Berrill (23C).

• Round eight of the Lotus Cycle Race League used a short circuit with a hairpin bend shortly before the finish. Martin Ruepp, the Swiss rider currently based in King's Lynn, deftly sprinted out of this to take the win, ahead of Chris Guy, followed by Strada Sport trio Mike Auger, Liam Gentry and Stuart Pryce. Go-Race winners were Sophie Holmes and Tommy Power.

A week later, in a scratch race on the full circuit, a break of about 15 riders got away. With about eight miles to go Tom Fitzpatrick (Strada Sport) went clear to take the win with Chris Guy (Iceni) again second.

• Daniel Bloy (King's Lynn CC) revelled in the warmth, the sun and the hills of the Newmarket C & TC hilly time trial where he finished second to James Coleman (Witham Whs). Bloy's 48:22 for the 21 miles put him in second place, beating recent winner David McGaw (Cambridge CC, 49:05) and Peter Balls (West Suffolk Whs, 50:06). Other highly placed Norfolk riders were David Staff (Velo Velocity, 52:31) and Bobby De'ath (CC Breckland, 53:55).

• Bloy's King's Lynn CC clubmate Gary Smith was one of more than 1,500 cyclists who took part in the Dunwich Dynamo, the 116-mile night ride from London to the Suffolk coast. Often riding in large groups and with the wind behind them, participants had the thrill of sweeping across Essex through the warm summer night at speeds in the mid-20s mph. For Smith there was time for a long stop for the midnight feast at Sible Hedingham and still be in time to see the sun rise just before arriving at Dunwich beach cafe.

• It is time to watch cyclists Gasp up Gas Hill – this spectator-friendly hill climb kicks off the Lord Mayor's celebrations in Norwich on Friday evening. The 64 gaspers race in groups of four on a knock-out basis. Start time is 7pm, but the best spots will be taken before then. Gas Hill climbs up from Riverside Road, opposite Bishop Bridge.
