Sam Arthurton led the way with the bat as Norfolk reached the last eight of the Unicorns Knock-out Trophy before securing a mid-table finish in the Minor Counties Championship.

The consistent opener ended the campaign with a career average of over 50 in the three-day game after turning in a series of consistent displays.

And he also shone brightly in the one-day format, scoring almost twice as many runs as his nearest challenger to help his side come through the group stages.

Arthurton notched up 414 Championship runs at an average of 46 while he really excelled himself in the Knockout Trophy, with 270 runs at an eye-catching average of 90.

New professional Rob Taylor settled quickly in his new surroundings, scoring more Championship runs than Athurton (450), but ending with the slightly lower average of 45. The only other players to average over 30 in the longer game from more than three games were Jason Reynolds and skipper Chris Brown.

Brown was once again Norfolk's most successful Championship bowler, claiming 26 wickets at an average of 18.8. He was given a good run for his money by Ben France, however, with the long-serving all-rounder making up for a poor campaign with the bat by taking 28 wickets at 23.28.

Taylor (16 wickets at 34.37) was the only other bowler to reach double figures, with the leading trio doing most of the work over the course of the summer. They delivered 570 overs between them, while the rest of attack contributed just 239.

Young Ben Coote led the one-day bowling averages with 10 wickets at 19.7 while Lewis Denmark (144), Jordan Taylor (130) and Rob Taylor (123) were the only batsmen apart from Arthurton to pass three figures.

Having being knocked out of the Unicorns Trophy by Staffordshire at the quarter-final stage Norfolk finished fifth in the Championship, with two wins, three draws and only one defeat. With 80 points they finished just five off third place, with a two point deduction for a slow over rate not affecting their position. It was a lack of success at the Manor Park that cost Brown's side - they won twice away from home, but the three Festival fixtures produced two draws and a defeat.
