Norfolk youngster Amelia Williamson will be jetting off to Sweden next month to compete in a big international tournament.

The Royal Cromer player, who recently turned 18, has been named in a six-strong England girls team bidding for European team championship glory at Forsgårdens Golf Club from July 10-14.

Williamson will be playing in her third European championship and last year helped England win bronze. She will be joined by Ebonie Lewis (Gloucestershire), Martha Lewis (Surrey), Mimi Rhodes (Somerset), Hannah Screen (Hertfordshire) and Caitlin Whitehead (Cumbria).

The current Norfolk champion will be aiming to bounce back from a frustrating couple of days at one the big events of the year, the British Open Amateur Championship at Hillside in Lancashire.

She was unable to get through to the matchplay stages of the prestigious competition after rounds of 76 and 81 left her three shots adrift of the qualifying mark on 13 over par.

Williamson was looking set for a solid first day after birdieing the short 16th to get back to plus one for her round, but a double bogey/bogey finish set her back.

The real damage was done on the front nine the following day which she covered in 45 strokes to end any realistic chance of making progress. It was to her credit that she then regrouped and played the back nine in level par 36, with an eagle three at the par five 11th the highlight of her week.

Meanwhile, Chase Davis was unable to build on a solid start at the Marstons East Anglian Open at the Bentley Golf & Country Club in Essex, eventually having to settle for 27th position. The Marriott Sprowston Manor professional was in touch with the leaders after an opening 71 but stumbled to a 79 the following day.

Tom Maxwell of Dunston Hall (77+77), Sean Brady of Marriott Sprowston Manor (79+85) and Morgan Thompson-Williams of Royal Norwich (83/83) all failed to make an impact while Nic Cains of Swaffham retired when three over. Andy Pestell of Chelmsford won the event by two shots after rounds of 70 69. Luke Goddard of Hendon (71+70) was second and Robert Coles of Maryland (75+67) third.
