Norfolk's Amelia Williamson is one of 11 young players who will be crossing the Channel later this month to target two French titles.

The 17-year-old from Royal Cromer will form part of a five-strong England girls' squad at the French Under-21 women's championship at St Cloud from March 29 to April 2.

She will be joined by Annabell Fuller and Martha Lewis of Surrey, Mimi Rhodes of Somerset and Hannah Screen of Hertfordshire.

Six players from the England boys' squad have been selected for the simultaneous French boys' championship at St Germain,

Meanwhile, Amelia's county colleague Amy Taylor, also 17, turned in a solid performance in her second appearance for her University in the United States in the highly competitive Collegiate Championship.

The Bawburgh member, who is now studying at Texas Tech in Lubbock, recorded a round of 73 to help her team to a tie for 11th position in the latest competition at Woodlands Country Club, Houston.

That was the second best score recorded by the five-strong team and sets up her nicely for the next event at St George, Utah, which gets under way on Monday.

On the professional scene Sheringham's Will Harrold travelled to the other side of the world to compete in the ISPS Handa New Zealand Open at Queenstown after earning a late-up call-up as a reserve to the Asia Tour event.

He played well enough in the opening two rounds, posting scores of 69 and 71, but was still four shots away from making the halfway cut.

Meanwhile, new King's Lynn club captain Neil Jary and ladies' captain Rebecca Maylard took centre stage at their club recently. They teed off in traditional fashion before the Captains' Drive-In which produced the following result: 44 points – M Narborough, O Perry, 43 points – F Brown, R Brown. 42 points (ocb) – F Easthall and R Barnett.

The club's junior captain this year is Tom Davis, 17, who plays off eight and has been a member for several years. He is looking forward to his year on office.

'I am pleased to be named captain and I am looking forward to being involved in the activities to grow the junior section,' he said.
