Norwich United will be looking to bounce back from their FA Vase exit by progressing in the Norfolk Senior Cup this afternoon.

The Planters exited the national non-league competition on Tuesday, losing 1-0 at home to Hullbridge Sports, and travel to a team that play two tiers below them in Almary Green Anglian Combination Premier Division Harleston Town.

Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division champions, and current leaders, United have been one of the area's most impressive sides in the past few years.

Yet they haven't matched that dominance in the Senior Cup getting knocked out at today's stage – the fourth round – two seasons ago before suffering semi-final heartbreak to eventual winners Wroxham last term. The Planters last reached the final in 2010 where they suffered a shock defeat on penalties to Mattishall – the last Anglian Combination side to win it.

Gorleston, winners in 2012 and 2014, may have a far finer Senior Cup record of late but they will have to wait until Tuesday to try and reach the last eight.

Ricci Butler's Greens had hoped to try and forget their own second-round Vase disappointment against struggling same-league Fakenham Town but the clash at Emerald Park was postponed last night.

A Norfolk FA statement said: 'Following a pitch inspection by a referee, the Senior Cup tie between Gorleston and Fakenham is off.

'The tie will now be played on Tuesday December 1 with a 7.45pm kick-off.'

Elsewhere, in an all Anglian Combination Premier tie, Spixworth, third, host fifth-placed Dersingham Rovers, this afternoon, weather permitting.

The remaining fourth round matches – which includes the third attempts at staging the matches between King's Lynn Town Reserves and Downham Town as well as Wroxham against Great Yarmouth Town – are also set to be played on Tuesday night.

The three sides already through to the quarter-finals were all handed away ties in last night's draw.

Acle travel to the winners of the Harleston v Norwich United tie, Thetford Town go to either Gorleston or Fakenham while Dereham take on Spixworth or Dersingham in a tie that will be switched to an alternative venue whoevers wins as neither of the Anglian Combination sides has lights.

The fourth tie will see Wroxham or Yarmouth entertain either King's Lynn Reserves or Downham Town.

The games are all scheduled to take place in the week beginning January 9.

The draws for the quarter-finals of the Primary and Junior Cups were also made on Radio Norfolk last night.

Norfolk Junior Cup: UEA v Mundford, Runton United v Great Yarmouth Reserves or West Lynn, Gorleston Reserves v East Harling, Gayton United v Ingoldisthorpe.
