Jordan Hugill is set to leave Norwich City this month, with Rotherham United in pole position to secure his signature on a permanent basis.

The Canaries are hoping to move the experienced striker off the wage bill this month as he enters the final six months of his contract at Carrow Road.

According to Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke, Rotherham have beaten several Championship clubs to his signature, with Hugill supposedly travelling to South Yorkshire today to undergo a medical and sign a three-and-a-half-year contract at the New York Stadium.

It is understood that Rotherham are interested in Hugill and are in the market for attacking reinforcements this month.

David Wagner confirmed last week that Hugill would not be part of his plans moving forward, opening the door to an exit for the former West Ham forward.

Millers boss Matt Taylor was asked directly about links to the Norwich striker prior to last weekend's draw with Watford and played a relatively straight bat when asked about the speculation.

"They are both players who are contracted elsewhere and it would be wrong for me to speak about those players when there's a game at the weekend where they could be playing a part in that," Taylor told the Yorkshire Post when asked about Hugill and Manchester United striker Charlie McNeil.

"It's come to a point where we have to be respectful of what is happening elsewhere.

"It has not always been shown to us (in terms of) those levels of respect in terms of our players' names getting talked about here, there and everywhere and getting leaked out to the press. I am at a point now where I don't really want to talk about individual names.

"Everyone knows we are looking to sign forwards and centre forwards. The players mentioned are good players, but it would be wrong for me to speak any further."

Hugill is likely to follow Todd Cantwell out of the exit door at Carrow Road after the 24-year-old completed a deal to sign for Glasgow Rangers on Monday.

Hugill's two-and-a-half association with Norwich looks poised to come to an end in the coming days.

Wagner is utilising the time created by the rescheduled fixture against Birmingham to reassess his squad, with incoming options being discussed by the club.

The January transfer window closes at 11pm on the final day of the month.
