Dereham Town's position at the top of the table is looking increasing tenuous after a second away loss in the space of four days.
Looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking last-gasp defeat at Haringey Borough on Saturday the Magpies went down at a Witham Town side who had started the evening in 18th position.
The visitors went in at the break on level terms but fell behind on 52 minutes when they conceded a penalty which Elliot Ronto converted.
Neal Simmons' side went in search of an equaliser but it wouldn't come and Australian midfielder Ronto converted a second spot-kick in injury-time to settle the issue.
With their rivals not playing Dereham stay top - but the likes of Canvey Island, Haringey and AFC Hornchurch will go past them if they win their games in hand.
Dereham: Pride, Taylor, Anema, Linford, Eastoe-Smith, Castellan, Logan, Burgers, Crisp, Beaumont, Kelleher. Subs: Katsande, Murphy, Wengrzik, Bean.
