The Broads Internal Drainage Board (BIDB) gives notice of its intention to carry out a project to 1 improve the flood defence banks alongside The Muckfleet' watercourse between Filby Broad (TG 45316 12860) and Stokesby New Road (TG 42120 11657). This project aims to reduce the risk of flooding to adjacent land and help secure the water levels in Filby Broad, which is used as a drinking water reservoir.

MUCKFLEET FLOOD DEFENCE IMPROVEMENT SCHEME

The Broads Internal Drainage Board (BIDB) gives notice of its intention to carry out a project to 1 improve the flood defence banks alongside The Muckfleet' watercourse between Filby Broad (TG 45316 12860) and Stokesby New Road (TG 42120 11657).

This project aims to reduce the risk of flooding to adjacent land and help secure the water levels in Filby Broad, which is used as a drinking water reservoir. It is proposed to do this by reducing the risk of potential breach of the flood banks through minimising overtopping and improving their stability. The works will consist of the building up the crest height and back slope profile of the flood bank, and filling in the existing soke dyke. Material for this will be excavated locally in the form of a new parallel soke dyke set further into the marshes, which will be designed to encourage habitat to quickly establish along its entire length.

The BIDB considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. However, a non-statutory Environmental Action Plan (EAP) report has been produced to document the potential environmental impacts of the scheme and any associated mitigation measures. Appropriate consents and licenses will also be obtained, where necessary, relating to designated sites and protected species. An electronic copy of the EAP report is available on request from the address below, or can be viewed at the same address.

Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice.
