A woman believed to be in her late teens was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition with severe burns to her throat from a house fire in Fakenham today.

She suffered serious injuries in the fire at Church Lanes and was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Investigations are ongoing this evening and are due to continue tomorrow morning to discover the cause of the blaze.

A spokesman for Norfolk Police said: 'Whilst multi-agency investigations are continuing with police, fire and the electricity company, at the moment we do not believe the cause of the fire to be suspicious.'

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust was called at 1.05pm and sent an ambulance, an ambulance officer and the East Anglian Air Ambulance critical care team in a land vehicle.

The woman was anaesthetised at the scene of the incident by the critical care medics.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service sent appliances from Fakenham, Wells, Massingham and Holt.

Crews used hose reel jets and wore breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

The area from Litchfield Street, off Queen's Road, was closed off to the public.
