Budding Andy Murrays and Laura Robsons were the first show off their tennis skills at a new parish sports facility in Mendham.

During the summer holidays, local children have enjoyed three days of tennis at the new multi-use games area behind the village hall in Withersdale. The lessons, funded by a bursary awarded from Proctor and Gamble, were delivered by E A Tennis South Norfolk, arranged by head coach Lauren Larner.

Tennis coach Toby Thomas who ran the course said: 'It has been a pleasure to teach this group of children. They were very well behaved and have shown a lot of enthusiasm for the sport. This new facility is perfect to get the kids interested in tennis and other sports, and can be used all year round with the floodlighting available.'

Tracey Tompkins, who helped with the MUGA project, added: 'The multi-use games area is available for use with low cost annual memberships, club, group and family hire. Also a party pass is available when hired in conjunction with the village hall. We are so lucky to have this facility for the local community to use and the committee all hope that it will help to carry on the legacy left by the Olympic Games to 'inspire a generation' to take part in sports.
