Young readers in Wells have been presented with certificates and medals after successfully completing a summer challenge.

The 16 children from Wells Primary and Nursery Schools completed an annual reading challenge, which this year came under the theme of Animal Agents.

County Councillor Dr Marie Strong presented the awards at the Wells Library and called it her favourite event of the year and said that it proves the value of our libraries.

The challenge called on them to read six books over the summer and solve a hidden mystery. One passionate reader went far beyond this and revealed that she had managed to get through 20 books.

The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays and libraries can sign up to take part. Children can read six library books of their choice to complete the challenge and it is free to take part.
