Adam Molloy, 13, from Cromer has received the chance to compete with the England Home International Junior Shore Angling Team.

Young Adam, a student at Cromer Academy, has been fishing for two years and is part of the Norfolk Angling Club.

Mum Helen, 44, said: 'We are absolutely bursting with pride and it's what he wants to do - we haven't pushed him.

'He has done it all himself; we have just been the taxi for him.'

Principal of Cromer Academy, Dr Geoff Baker, said: 'Academic success is only one aspect so we are absolutely delighted for him.

'It's amazing as he hasn't been doing it for long, his confidence has gone up lots and we are incredibly proud of him.'

Adam will be the travelling reserve for the team which will compete in July next year at Kelling and then at the River Nene.

This year the 17-strong team, are aged between 10 and 16, won gold in Ireland.

Mrs Molloy, a health and safety coordinator at Easton and Otley College, added: 'None of this would have happened without the support and expertise of the angling club.'

Dene Conway, owner of Rite

Gear Angling Centre in West Runton, and member of Norfolk Angling Club, said: 'He's learnt everything really well and come on in leaps and bounds.

We try to push our members in the right direction and it is a great satisfaction to see. We hope it will rub off around the area.'

It will take place between July 7 and 9 with the first day being a practice day and a presentation being held afterwards.

Adam has been training with clubs across north Norfolk. On Sunday he fished at Trimingham beach with the club.
