A rotary club has donated £2,000 to a children's hospice from one of its most popular events.

The Rotary Club of Wymondham donated £2,000 to East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) from its Last Night of the Proms event, which was held at the Wymondham Abbey in September 2016.

Both the Rotary and The Rotary Satellite Club in Wymondham have always been huge supporters of EACH and recently their support has benefited the charity's nook appeal. EACH launched the nook appeal in November 2014. It aims to raise £10m to transform children's palliative care across the county, which includes a new purpose-built hospice 'the nook' on a 5-acre woodland site in Framingham Earl, just south of Norwich.

David Lister, chairman of The Rotary of Wymondham Satellite, said: 'We are thrilled to have raised so much money for the nook appeal in two years.

'I am so proud of all the members for their hard work and we have put on a lot of events and activities in the last year, including our metal detecting event.

'Having visited the Quidenham hospice myself, I can see why EACH needs a new purpose-built hospice for local families and we are pleased that we are able to make such a significant contribution.'

Emma Taylor, community fund-raiser for EACH, said: 'We feel very lucky to have the support of the Rotary Clubs in Wymondham.

'They are one of our most generous community supporters and the amount of time and effort they put in to their events and activities is really impressive.

'I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the Rotary members from both groups for their continued support.

'We are heading towards the £5m mark for the nook appeal and we need the support of all sectors of the Norfolk community to achieve our fundraising target, so support from the Rotary Clubs of Wymondham is very much appreciated.'
