An Open Gardens event has achieved another successful year in a market town.

Wymondham Open Gardens has been running in the town for more than 35 years.

This year's event proved one of the most successful with 1,100 entry programmes being sold.

Almost 40 green-fingered residents opened their gardens and local organisations donated 37 prizes for the raffle.

During the weekend £7876 was raised, in contrast to the £1,000 raised for charity in its first year.

Tony Fielder, Open Gardens team member, said: 'I had 645 people through my garden in one day.'

The money will be split between Wymondham Heritage Museum and Wymondham Dementia Support Group.

It was presented by Shane McGuire from the Open Gardens team to Mike Foyle, chairman of the Museum management committee and Tony Shead, a trustee of the Dementia Support Group.
