It is a psychological thriller featuring supernatural encounters and brushes with the afterlife.

But author Dan Alborough has not chosen the gritty and glamorous streets of London of New York for his second novel, but has instead decided to feature his hometown, Wymondham.

The 42-year-old, who works in marketing and writes fiction in his spare time, said he had just finished the first draft of the book, Calling From the Next Room, and he hoped to publish it later this year.

Mr Alborough said the story centred around a couple called Tom and June.

He said: 'The main character becomes curious about the afterlife and he attends a psychic medium show, and it pans out from there.'

Mr Alborough said he used landmarks of the market town such as Wymondham Abbey, the Green Dragon pub and the old, atmospheric streets of Wymondham.

He said: 'I thought it would be fun to have those dramatic events set in a town like Wymondham and a city like Norwich.

'I think they're very effective settings for a thriller.'

Mr Alborough published his first novel, Not From Round Here, about two years ago, and he said it had since sold more than 600 copies.

That novel is a murder/mystery also set in Wymondham, and is available to buy on amazon.co.uk, as is Mr Alborough's collection of poems, Stronger Following Fracture.

Mr Alborough said: 'There has been a lot of public interest in Not From Round Here.

'It follows the story of a guy who lives in Wymondham and works in Norwich, and there are a lot of twists and turns.

'The ending comes as a real surprise to the readers.'

Mr Alborough said he was delighted with the success of his initial efforts as a self-published author, and planned to continue writing fiction.

He said: 'I have always been interested in creative writing and writing a novel has been an ambition of mine.

'I had heard about the self-publishing route and how a lot of people have had success with it.

'I love the idea of creating a different world and shaping those characters, and playing around with dramatic scenarios.

'I enjoy the whole creative process.'
