A day care centre which supports the elderly in a Norfolk town is celebrating its fortieth anniversary this week.

Wymondham Day Care Centre was established in 1978 in the town's Methodist Church on Town Green, with the assistance of the mental health charity Mind.

To mark the occasion, the centre will host reunions and parties from October 22 to 26.

Vivienne Clifford-Jackson, a trustee of the centre, said: 'We would love people to share in our celebrations and come and see what we can offer if they have a need for a delightful day out with good company, good food, and interesting activities.'

Sallie Colk, a former nurse, was organizer of the centre for 27 years until her retirement in 2011, and in her time she oversaw the centre expand from opening for two days a week to three days.

The centre, run by volunteers, provides up to 75 visitors a week with a chance for social interaction and a hot lunch.

A registered charity, it is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
