A group of students from Wymondham College have argued their way to the final of a national debating competition.

The group of sixth formers beat five other schools to make it through to the final round of the Institute of Ideas' Debating Matters Competition, which will take place in London in July.

To make it through to the final, the 16 to 18-year-olds from the college took part in a series of debates on topics such as health monitoring and the sharing economy in an regional final at the University of Bedfordshire. The competition involves nearly 300 schools and 2,000 students from across the UK.

Jonathan Taylor, the college's principal, said: 'I am delighted that our students have won a place in the final of this prestigious debating competition against such strong opposition. Debating is just one of the many extra-curricular activities we offer and we even have an annual inter-house debating competition.'
