It was a day that had been a long wait for many, with the A-Level and AS-Level results often influencing the next few years of their lives.

At Wymondham College, principal Jonathan Taylor was celebrating record-breaking results, with 35pc of grades awarded being A*s or As.

He said: 'Eight students achieved 3 or more A* grades and 60 students achieved at least 2 A grades. I would like to congratulate all of our students on their excellent achievements.'

Matila Curson, a year 13 student, gained four A*s in English Literature, French, History and Maths, which means she will now go on to study modern and medieval languages at Cambridge University.

She said: 'I've always loved learning languages and I am really excited to start my degree in September. Thank you Wymondham College for all your support.'

Ken Glover, director of Sixth Form, said the school was 'thrilled' so many 'terrific young people are now facing fantastic lives out in the world'.

Meanwhile, spirits were equally as high down the road at Wymondham High Academy, where the percentage of students three or more A-Level passes was 84pc.

Victoria Dinwoodle, director of advanced learning, said: 'We are immensely proud of our students and the support provided by their parents. These outstanding results ensure that the vast majority of our students have achieved places at university or competitive apprenticeships.

'The students have worked really hard this year and we are grateful to all our staff for their commitment to our young people.'

At Hethersett Old Hall School, the ten year 13 students celebrated an impressive 100pc pass rate at A-Level, with a 16pc increase in grades in the top A* to C band, up from 58pc to 74pc.

Stephen Crump, headmaster, said: 'it is very pleasing that almost three-quarters of our A Level grades are in the upper grade band. It is a testimony to the hard work of the girls and staff.'

The school said that university choices range from architecture to oceanography.

Mr Crump added: 'We encourage all our pupils to discover their particular abilities and interests and support them well in finding the right higher education courses for the next stage of their learning.'

As envelopes were opened at Attleborough Academy, a significant increase in results was revealed.

Their pass rate was 98.9pc, while the number of students gaining grades A* to C was 57pc.

The school praised their top performer, Rosie Matthews, who scored a straight three A*s.
