A Hethersett sheltered housing complex went back in time in order to help village residents monitor their blood pressure.

Woodcote in Firs Road held a 1940s-themed day and raised money for the village doctors' surgery, Hethersett Dementia Group and their own social club.

Members of the complex's social committee presented a cheque for £500 to the surgery, which will probably be used to buy up to 20 blood pressure monitoring machines which can be loaned out to patients.

Chris Trennerry, Woodcote's social committee chairman, said: 'We are absolutely delighted to be able to help our local surgery from what was such a fun day.'

Meanwhile, the surgery has a new phone number 01603 977477, which also covers branches in Cringleford and Mulbarton.

Edwina Wilson, practice manager, said the new system would allow staff to take more calls at once and mean more patients could get through at busy times.
