A 54-year-old woman needed urgent medical assistance after suffering a heart attack in a fenland village.

The Magpas Helimedix team flew to the scene at a residential address in Wisbech St Mary, near Wisbech on a Magpas and police helicopter late on Saturday morning.

The team assisted the ambulance crew as soon as they arrived.

The Helimedix team anaesthetised the woman and continued to provide pre-hospital critical care whilst escorting the patient by helicopter to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn. On arrival the woman was in a serious condition.

Daryl Brown, chief operating officer for Magpas said: 'This incident highlights how crucial the Magpas Helimedix service is.

'It is because of the joint service with the Cambridgeshire Police that we are able to deliver such a rapid and coordinated response to anywhere in the East of England. This allows Magpas Helimedix to saves lives across East Anglia, day and night.'
