A woman died when her car plunged into the Great Ouse at Ely yesterday.

Police said the blue Ford Ka entered the water near Queen Adelaide Bridge after what was described as a “single vehicle accident” just before 3.30pm.

The body of a woman was inside the vehicle when it was recovered from the river. No further details of the victim were known this morning.

PC Paul Symonds, who is investigating the crash, said: “I'd like to hear from anyone who was in the Queen Adelaide area yesterday afternoon, who may have seen the Ford Ka in the moments leading up to the collision.”
