Detectives in Lowestoft are still appealing for witnesses after the owner of the Bottle and Basket store in St Peters Street was targeted by an armed robber just before 9pm on Tuesday night.

Shop owner Bhargav Acharya tried to stop the knife wielding robber from taking his till.

The robber took the till after Mr Acharya fell back when the offender swung the knife in the air.

A police spokesman said: 'Police are continuing enquiries into the robbery and are renewing appeals for anyone who was in the area around 9pm on Tuesday to come forward.

'Officers conducted anniversary checks in the vicinity of the shop last night between 8.30pm and 9.30pm and spoke to several people but there was no new information forthcoming.

'Detectives would still like to trace the woman who reported seeing a vehicle speed away shortly after the incident, as well as the occupants of this vehicle.'

The robber was last seen running off towards Burton Street. It is believed he may have got into a car.

He was in his late teens to early 20s, about 5ft 9ft tall, of medium to large build, and wearing a grey hooded top, with the hood tightly done up around his face, and dark jeans.

Anyone with information should call Lowestoft CID on 101.
