Tilly Butler and Sienna Long from Wicklewood Primary School and Nursery asked if they could run a bake sale to raise money for the victims of the disaster.

And Julia Brooks, headteacher, said she was proud of the girls' efforts after suggesting that they link the sale with the school's annual Harvest Festival.

She said: 'They set up their own website, produced a PowerPoint presentation, organised and ran a bake sale and then led the Harvest Festival in front of the whole school and parents.

'We are incredibly proud of the girls, how culturally aware they are and the determination that they demonstrated to make this happen.'

The girls' efforts raised a total of £610, which will be donated to the children's charity Unicef.
