It is said every pair of shoes tells a story and reflects different personalities.
Now primary school children in Wells are using unique footwear to bring to life the rich heritage of their town.
As part of 'A Walk in Wells Footsteps', a project led by Wells Maltings, pupils have researched the history of 15 significant houses to create sculptures of "funky shoes" worn by people who might have lived there.
Having been installed by Wells Men's Shed, the creations will remain dotted around the town until the end of September and can be seen during a self-guided walking tour starting at the Maltings.
Mary Blue Brady, of Wells Maltings, said: "This year's trail has a playful vibrancy and wide appeal thanks to the imagination of our students.
"There is an element of surprise and wonder in every pair of shoes, sparking curiosity about what life was like as a master mariner or during the heyday of shipbuilding."
- Trail maps are available at Wells Maltings for £1.
