For those who haven't got tickets to go to the Olympic Games or have no plans to head to the capital, there will be plenty of opportunities to get into the party-spirit and cheer on Team GB within their local community. KATE SCOTTER takes a look at some of the places where you can catch some of the action.

Head to your local

Olympic fever will be hitting pubs in and around Norwich over the next two weeks.

Pubs and bars including the Ketts Tavern in Ketts Hill, Rocco's in Prince of Wales Road, the Woolpack in Golden Ball Street and The Woolie in Muspole Street will be showing the Games.

At the Murderers in Norwich's Timberhill, sports fans will be able to watch five different sports at once whilst drinking an Olympic-themed real ale.

The city centre pub is also decked out in Olympic-themed decorations and tonight's opening ceremony will be shown in 3D.

Landlord Phil Cutter said: 'You've got to stand out - people will be able to watch it at home but it's about creating an atmosphere and making it special for people. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity and we've got the facilities where people can watch multiple events.'

Cycling fans are being invited to head down to the York Tavern in Norwich's Golden Triangle tomorrow morning to watch the men's road race - in which Great Britain's Mark Cavendish hopes to win the nation's first gold medal.

Landlord Andy Bolton will have the coffee on the go for when the race starts at 10am. There will also be a barbecue at 5pm to raise funds for the Luke Day Adventure Fund - the charity set up in memory of the Costessey High teacher who tragically died on his honeymoon in Egypt.

Last week, more than 60 people packed into the York Street pub to watch the final stage of the Tour de France and it is hoped there will be similar scenes.

Mr Bolton, a keen cyclist himself who last week cycled from London to Paris and who runs the pub with his wife Jo, said: 'We were on the Champs-Elysees watching the Tour on Sunday but from what I've heard, it was quite intense and I'm expecting more of the same on Saturday.'

And the newly-refurbished The Otter in Acres Way, Thorpe Marriott, will be hosting a barbecue, tombola and raffle in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Sunday from 1pm to 4pm as well as showing all the action on their screens.

Get in the community spirit

North Breckland Youth For Christ is running a community cafe - with free entry - during both the Games.

It is being staged at Dereham Baptist Church, off Norwich Street, and the activities will include Xbox Kinect, Wii, table tennis, pool, a chat space.

Food and drinks will be available from the cafe.

The cafe is launched at the Olympics opening ceremony tonight from 7-10.30pm and is then open on Tuesday from 2-5pm, Friday August 3, 2-5pm and 7-9.30pm, Tuesday August 7, 2-5pm, Friday August 10, 7-9.30pm and for the closing ceremony on Sunday August 12, 7-10.30pm.

Enter the Dragons' den

Norwich Dragons Hockey Club at the Goals Soccer Centre in Hall Road will be a hockey house, providing a great opportunity to come down and raise the roof, get behind team GB and watch the games for free.

It will be screening the women's game against Japan on Sunday at 7pm and the men's game against Argentina on Monday.

Sally Munday, chief operating officer of GB Hockey, said: 'Hockey houses are the next best thing to being at the Games this summer. Each venue will be dressed in British bunting with life-sized cut-outs of GB players, information on match times, results tables, inflatable hockey sticks and balls and GB Hockey giveaways.'

Enjoy all the sport outside

Every day throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games, all the sporting action will be live on the big screen at Chapelfield Plain.

There will also be an one-hour aerobic class every day at 7.30am, starting tomorrow, to get people into the sporting spirit.

Liz Wimms, from Norwich City Council, said: 'Norwich is the only place in East Anglia with an official London 2012 Live Site and focal point for people to come together and enjoy the Olympics and hopefully celebrate some medals.'

Join in some fun activities

The Maltings Pavilion in Ditchingham, near Bungay, is holding an alternative Olympics to tie in the with the start of London 2012.

This evening, there will be a Wii Family Challenge from 7pm, while on Sunday they will host an 'Olympic Challenge' with a day of contests including a backwards 30 yard dash, welly wanging, limbo hurdles, wheel barrow relay and cream cracker challenge.
