Children and adults alike are familiar with playing Where's Wally?

Hunting through a crowded scene they look for the familiar figure with his red and white stripy jumper and round black glasses.

But now a popular Bungay legend is to have its own version in a piece of artwork that is raising money to help promote the town.

Malcolm Cudmore, 60, is creating a picture of the town centre that will feature Black Shuck, and he is appealing for as many people as possible to come forward to be drawn into the piece.

The hope is that the familiar scene of the Buttercross can be crowded with local people who can then enjoy spotting themselves, as well as the legendary black dog hidden among them.

He said: 'It will be great to have a crowd of Bungay residents in the picture all wearing a favourite hat or coat, or even with a family pet, making them easily recognisable to other inhabitants of Bungay.'

The town mayor and reeve are among those to have already signed up to be involved, but the artist is hoping many more will join in by supplying a picture or modelling for it.

The finished panorama colour pencil piece will then be reproduced as a limited edition greeting card which will be sold to raise money for the Bungay Joint Tourism Group.

Mr Cudmore, who is part of the town's Black Dog Arts Group, said: 'I just thought it was a novel way of raising money.'

Prints may also be made while donations paid to be drawn into the picture will also go to the group, which encourages and promotes tourism in the town.

Keith Parker, group chairman, said: 'Bungay has a great deal to attract visitors to the town, and the income generated is vital to the local economy, even more in the current climate.

'I am very much looking forward to seeing the finished picture, which will be displayed at a special exhibition of Bungay inspired artwork during the festival in July.'

Mr Cudmore will be at the Earsham Street Caf working on the piece during the second weekend of the Black Dog Art Trail in the town on July 14 and 15.
