A £4.5m supermarket on the edge of Heacham won’t be open for Christmas.

Lidl won planning permission to develop the former Stainsby garage site, on the A149 near Norfolk Lavender, in January.

An earlier application was turned down. But the budget chain re-designed what it described as one of its latest generation of stores and appealed.

Work is progressing on the store, with internal and external walls taking shape.

There has been speculation it will be open by Christmas. But a Lidl spokesman said: “Our new store in Heacham is due to open in the spring next year.”
When open, the new store will create up 40 new jobs. There will also be 129 parking spaces beside it.

Parish councillors opposed the application over fears it would increase congestion at the junction of the A149 and B1454 Sedgeford road, where long queues of traffic build up during the summer holiday season.
