A west Norfolk theatre company is calling for members of the public to get involved on stage.

The Lavender Hill Mob, the mayor's charity for 2016 - 2017, has been commissioned to put on a play as part of the Ouse Washes Festival this summer.

The festival celebrates the history of the Fens.

Project manager for the theatre company, Ken Shelton said: 'We are keen to get anybody along who has ever felt like appearing on stage.

'What is really important and rewarding for us is watching people who may not have much self esteem or confidence actually given those things through performing. That's the most rewarding part. To see them stand up on stage in front of an audience is really important.'

The group is an inclusive company, which means people of all levels of ability, and those who have disabilities, are welcomed.

A workshop will be held tomorrow at 2pm at Downham Market Town hall for any budding actors.

The play, which will be performed in two pubs in Norfolk and one in Cambridgeshire, will adopt a different name for each performance and is set in 1702.

It tells the story of a group of travellers lost in fog, who happen upon a local pub.

The company is looking for performers aged 16 and above.

Performances will take place at the Jenyns Arms at Denver near Downham Market on July 24, the Lamb and Flag at Welney, also on July 24, and The Crown in Earith, in Cambridgeshire, on July 31.
