West Norfolk Foxhounds wished their hunt club chairman luck in his recovery from a bad fall and praised the work of the East Anglian Air Ambulance during their Christmas Eve hunt.

Tim Wood, from Shipdham, near Dereham was seriously injured after he fell from his horse at Gressenhall in September and is recovering at a specialist unit in Sheffield.

An air ambulance took him to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital after the fall.

At Tuesday's Christmas Eve hunt, where more than 100 riders of all ages enjoyed the stunning surroundings of Sennowe Park at Guist, near Fakenham, Mr Wood's wife, Sue Wood, presented a cheque for £2,053.13 to Jenny Easton, an administrator for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

The money was raised by club members at several events, including a car boot sale.

Mrs Wood, also a West Norfolk Foxhounds member, said: 'Tim is recovering well and the air ambulance did a great job to get him to hospital quickly after the fall.

'It is such a worthwhile charity that relies on donations like this and this is our way of saying thank you to them.'

Hunt chairman Roly Beazley said: 'Our members have had to use the air ambulance on many occasions, most recently in September when our hunt club chairman Tim Wood had a fall and we all wish him the very best of luck with his recovery.

'It is a fantastic charity which saves lives and organisations like ours rely on them.'

Ms Easton highlighted how the air ambulance provides vital support for thousands of people throughout the region who enjoy countryside pursuits.

She said: 'I don't think there is anyone involved in equestrian activities who doesn't know somebody who has used an air ambulance.

'They are often riding in locations like this which are difficult to get to.'

She added: 'We are extremely grateful for this donation. Without donations like this we would not be able to do the work that we do.'

West Norfolk Foxhounds will be back out today for the Boxing Day hunt at Raynham Hall, starting at 11am and non-members are welcome to take part. Don't forget to buy Friday's EDP and to visit www.edp24.co.uk to see coverage of that event.
