A prosecco-soaked creation with white chocolate buttercream and homemade cherry jam has won a Wymondham woman top honours in a Victoria Sponge Bake Off contest.

Wednesday Batchelor, who runs Unicorn Cakery and Delectables, picked up two tickets to Cake International, the world's biggest cake decoration event in Birmingham, and a bag of goodies for her victory in the competition, which was run by South Norfolk Council.

She said she was delighted with the win. She said: 'It was a great opportunity to get my name out there and good fun too.

'It was lovely to see everyone enjoying my baking, I don't think there was much cake left after the judging.

'It was fantastic to win.'

The competition was open to all businesses in the district that have been awarded four- or five-star hygiene ratings by the council.

Michael Edney, South Norfolk Council's deputy leader, said: 'Well done Wednesday, it was a very tasty cake.

'Businesses in the area are working hard when it comes to hygiene and are excelling, which is great news for our residents and visitors to the area.

'Our food and safety team are always on-hand with support and advice if needed and work with businesses to help them achieve top marks.'
