The snow and ice is clearing from Norfolk's roads as temperatures rise, but police have urged drivers to still take extra care.

Warmer temperatures on Saturday means road conditions are getting back to normal and the snow showers have ceased.

But a spokeswoman for Norfolk police said: 'The roads are starting to clear and we are not seeing the road traffic collisions that we have over the past few days. 'However, we would still advise caution and for drivers to allow for extra time to reach their destinations. There is still a lot of compacted snow on the sides of the roads.'

There was a crash involving two vehicles on Daniels Road in Norwich, this morning, close to the roundabout with Newmarket Road, A pedestrian crossing light and barrier were damaged in the crash, which happened at just after 6.30am.

Melting snow has led to concern over flooding in some parts of the country.

While there are no flood warnings in place for Norfolk, forecasters from University of East Anglia-based Weatherquest warned the county could see a fair bit of rain later this afternoon.

Forecaster Dan Holley said: 'It is a bit of a less cold start to the day for the region with most places above freezing. The driest part of today will be this morning. 'Eventually into the afternoon a more organised area of rain will spread its way northwards across the region, so expect some fairly heavy and persistent rain during the afternoon.'

He said there could be gusts of wind around the east coast, with temperatures up to highs of 4 to 7 degrees celsius.'

He said the rain would clear away in the evening, with temperatures overnight staying above freezing, between 1 to 4 degrees celsius.'

He said tomorrow was looking like a 'quiet start to the week', with sun, cloud and some showers to the west of the county in the late afternoon and evening.

He said: 'Many places between 7 and 9 degrees tomorrow so we continue to thaw that snow away. One or two spots could just about scrape double figures, believe it or not.'
