Heavy rain has led to Burnham Market International Horse Trials being called off.

The event, at Sussex Farm, is known for attracting riders from across the globe and this year 18 nationalities were represented, from as far afield as Hong Kong, Brasil, South Africa and Russia, with 800 horses due to compete over the three days.

Spokesman Hilary Manners said: “The organisers of the horse trials have had to make the decision to abandon due to heavy rain overnight.”

She added safety had to come first.
