Norwich residents, who were affected by flash floods this summer, are being urged apply for emergency grants to help them get their lives back on track.

Applications open today for a £10,000 pot of money, which has come from the EDP Norfolk and Lowestoft Flood Appeal.

The appeal, which was launched at the end of last year to help the hundreds of people affected by a devastating tidal surge, has been extended to help residents in Norwich who were hit by a series of flash floods.

The fund, which is managed by Norfolk Community Foundation, has been awarded to Norwich City Council and local residents have until the end of the month to get their applications in.

Several homes and businesses in Norwich were flooded during a spate of summer thunderstorms and torrential downpours, which resulted in flooding on May 27, July 20, and on August 10.

A number of properties in Beatrice Road and Ella Road suffered flood damage as well as Lionwood Infant and Nursery School.

The Norwich flood fund will open today and will close on Tuesday, September 30. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of October.

Emergency grants of up to £500 will be considered for properties affected by internal flooding that fall within Norwich City Council's boundary. The money is being made available for costs not covered by insurance.

More than £330,000 was donated to the EDP Norfolk and Lowestoft Flood Appeal by generous local people, local authorities, businesses, trusts, charities and other agencies and the final £10,000 has been set aside for flood victims in the city.
