The UK Independence Party's only MP was booed in parliament today when he stood up to ask the prime minister a question.
Douglas Carswell was met with a hostile reception when he called for consensus after Britain voted to leave the European Union.
In an unprecedented move, MPs started muttering and booing as he addressed the House of Commons.
He later tweeted: 'Never head an MP booed in Parliament before. I was today as I called for a new consensus.'
Adding: 'Perhaps the most shocking thing about being booed / jeered by MPs is that 1-on-1 in corridors none has dared behave that way. Mob mindset.'
In a House of Commons session dominated from the fall out of last week's Brexit vote, fellow Essex MP Bernard Jenkin condemned UKIP Nigel Farage for a speech in the European Parliament yesterday where he told MEPs that they were not laughing anymore following the vote.
