A Great Yarmouth man has expressed his pride at seeing his nephew and niece reach the finals of the boxing at the Commonwealth Games.

Patrick Walsh, 75, is the uncle of Northern Ireland boxing siblings and Aidan and Michaela Walsh.

Both of them reached their respective weight finals at the Commonwealth Games in Australia and they both won silver medals.

Aidan was beaten in the welterweight final by English boxer Pat McCormack and his sister lost the featherweight final to home favourite Skye Nicolson.

Mr Walsh, who is voluntary entertainments manager at the Caister Community Social Club, said: “I’m so proud of them both for the amount of work and effort they put in to achieve such wonderful accolades, a silver medal each, not only for themselves but also for their granddad and the rest of their loving family spread all over the world.

“We salute them and wish them every success in their future.”
