Villagers tracked down a suspected burglar seen leaving the scene of a shed break-in.
They used torch to follow to follow his footprints through the fields as he fled from a property in Great Bircham, near King's Lynn, on Friday evening.
Police were called to the scene in Docking Road and the man, in his 30s, was arrested by officers on suspicion of burglary. A power drill stolen from the shed was found nearby.
Sgt Andy Crown, from Dersingham police, said: 'This was a great bit of detective work by a group of community-minded residents and we'd like to thank them for their vigilance and help.
'Householders are our eyes and ears and should call police immediately if they think a crime has being committed or is about to be committed.'
A man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
