He is the tuneful starlet who became an internet sensation after getting scores of strangers to join in with an impromptu sing-along on the London Underground.

The 47-year-old became an online superstar after a video of him belting out Erasure's A Little Respect on the platform at Kentish Town underground station went viral.

The video clocked up millions of views after being shared across the globe and caught the attention of independent label Ministry of Pop, who penned a song especially for Neil and then invited him into their studios to record it before Christmas.

And the finished song, a thumping dance track entitled Connected (put your hands up), is due for release on Monday.

Neil, from Lancaster Road who used to perform with Yarmouth-based band u4ia (Euphoria), said: 'The song does encapsulate everything that happened on the underground that day, standing on the platform and getting everybody connected.

'The song has got such a feel good factor, it's the best thing I have done.'

Friends and family have been given a sneak preview of the single and showered praise on it after their first listen. And while hoping it will do well on release Neil is remaining grounded about the whole process.

'It's still quite surreal. You have to keep your feet firmly on the floor just in case nothing does massively happen,' he added.

'You think to yourself if it sells and if it's a hit then fantastic. If it doesn't it will be one of the things I'll take with me to the day I die. It's just an amazing experience.'

Ahead of the single's release on Monday, Neil has been working with cameraman friend Ryan Lovejoy on making the video for Connected, which has been shot in Great Yarmouth.

The scenes for the chorus have been taken in St George's Theatre while the verses will feature Neil walking through the streets of the town.

Neil said: 'It's lovely to do it in Yarmouth because at the end of the day I owe such a lot to Yarmouth. I have been singing in the town for years and years, it's nice to put Yarmouth back on the map.'

? Connected will be available to download from iTunes, Amazon and other online stores from Monday.
