It was full steam ahead at a Norfolk railway station as funds were raised to restore an out-of-action steam engine.

Whitwell and Reepham Railway Station's first Steam Sunday event of the new year was held today.

The event saw dozens of families take a ride the steam train led by Victory, including three people who were given the opportunity to drive the steam engine.

Money raised from the day went to the station's Annie Restoration Fund, an appeal to raise £15,000 to repair steam engine Annie which went out of service during 2013.

The fund has already reached the half-way mark and it is hoped to have both Annie and her brother engine Victory up and running in time for the station's Steam Rally at the end of July.

Mike Urry, who bought the station in 2007 and will be marking five years since reopening the venue next month, said it was 'lovely' to see families enjoy seeing the steam engine today.

The event coincided with Reepham Runners' cross-country race which saw dozens of runners tackle a 10km course.
