A 46-year-old man whose body was found in a pool of water in Dereham at the weekend had been reported missing, police confirmed.

Officers launched an investigation following the discovery of the local man by a dog walker on Sunday but later confirmed they were not treating the death as suspicious.

Yesterday, three bunches of flowers had been laid at the site where the body was found.

Police were called to a wooded footpath off Tavern Lane, close to the bottom of the A47 slip road and the flyover at South Green near Toftwood, just before 10.30am on Sunday.

The area, which is surrounded by thick foliage, was cordoned off for several hours.

A police spokesman said: 'The body discovered was that of a 46-year-old local man. I can confirm that he had been reported missing and that there are no suspicious circumstances surround his death. The matter has been passed to the coroner.'
