UPDATED: Investigations into Watton blaze expected to start today

Investigations into the cause of a major fire at an industrial unit in Watton are expected to tart today(Monday).

Dozens of firefighters from across Norfolk tackled the blaze at Carbon Elite, on the Norwich Road Industrial Estate, on Saturday morning.

The alarm was raised at about 12.20am and officers arrived to find the large building well alight.

It took nearly five hours to get the blaze under control in the windy conditions and crews remained at the scene damping down for most of the day.

The reinforced plastics business, measuring around 30 metres by 44 metres, has been gutted and large sections of the roof are missing.

Incident commander Jonathan Wilby, station manager at Great Yarmouth, said the building was structurally unsound and investigations into the cause of the fire were unlikely to start until after the weekend.

He believes temperatures in the building must have reached up to 1,000 ?C, causing the metal supports to bend and twist.
