UPDATE: Woman taken to hospital after bus crash on Norwich’s Newmarket Road

A woman has been taken to hospital after a rush hour bus crash on one of the main roads into Norwich.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to Newmarket Road just after 8.15am to reports of a crash involving a the 601 Thickthorn Park and Ride bus and a maroon Skoda.

The crash happened on the city-bound carriageway close to the junction with Unthank Road and it is believed schoolchildren were on board the double-decker bus.

Eyewitnesses said the emergency exit at the back of the bus had been opened and children appeared to be upset.

The East of England Ambulance Service said a 50-year-old woman had been taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital after she hurt her neck.

The bus had driven away from the scene by 9.30am and traffic was then moving freely.
