A second man was also arrested yesterday on suspicion of violent disorder. The 24-year-old, from the Thetford area, was released on police bail and will return to Bury St Edmunds Police Station on June 29.

The arrests followed reports of a large disturbance and several people fighting at 1.25am yesterday. Three men were injured and police officers administered first aid until the ambulance service arrived. All three were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital where they remain in a stable condition.

One of these was a 26-year-old man with a wound to his neck and face that was initially thought to be life threatening. Both other men suffered cuts.

Market Hill was cordoned off for forensic examination until 9.10am.

Police are viewing CCTV and are carrying out a number of other enquiries to determine what happened but would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident.
