Three people have died in crashes in a bleak 24 hours on Norfolk's roads.

Two pedestrians were killed in collisions on Saturday at Caister and Stockton and the tragedies followed the death of a man in a two-car crash at Stradsett on Friday night.

Norfolk and Suffolk roads policing department tweeted: 'We are dealing with 3 tragedies over last 24 hrs. We are investigating the causes and supporting families our thoughts are with all involved.'

In the latest crash, a male pedestrian died after being struck by a BMW car on the A146 in Stockton at about 6.20pm on Saturday.

Police and the ambulance service attended but the pedestrian died at the scene.

The driver of the BMW suffered minor injuries.

The road remains closed as investigations into the collision continue.

Earlier in the afternoon, a female pedestrian died after being hit by a single decker bus at Caister.

Emergency services, including the East Anglian Air Ambulance, were called to the scene on Ormesby Road at the junction with St Hilda Road at 4pm.

A spokesman said no further information relating to the deceased would be released at this stage.

Ormesby Road remains closed as investigations continue.

Motorists are being diverted and pedestrians were earlier not being allowed beyond Seafield Road South.

Meanwhile, an 80-year-old man has died after a head-on crash on the A1122 at Stradsett.

The accident took place at about 8.20pm on Friday when two vehicles – a Honda Civic and an Audi A3 - were involved in the crash.

Emergency services including the police, ambulance and fire service went to the scene to help the drivers of both cars.

The male driver of the Honda was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn with serious injuries.

But Norfolk police confirmed that he later died in the hospital. Police have not released any further details about the man.

The female driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The road remained closed until 12.30am while investigations into the crash continued.

Firefighters from Downham Market, Methwold and King's Lynn went to the scene of the crash.

Police want to speak to anyone who believes they may have witnessed any of the crashes.

Witnesses are asked to contact the serious collision investigation team at Norfolk Constabulary on 101.
